Magnum vs Magnum RMK whats the difference??
Hi, I have a 2002 polaris magnum 500 4x4. When you look it up at any parts place, or kelly blue book, it asks if it is a magnum 500, or 500 RMK. What is the difference?? There is a $400 value difference between the two at KBB.com - I would like to know which mine is, and how to tell. Thanks!

The magnum RMK in 2002 had a visco-loc front diff to provide 4 wheel engine braking, which the hilliard (front diff in yours) didn't provide before the ADCs in 2007. It should say RMK in red on the tank plastic. A "standard" magnum would have the front end 4x4 engagement in the hubs rather than the diff in 2002. They will be black steel hubs that stick out about 3" from the wheel and they have a plastic cap on the end held on by 3 screws. I can't remember if there were any other differences. I think this is right but correct me if I'm wrong. Oh yea, I think RMK stands for "Rocky Mountain King" as with their snowmobiles.

Model number should be on a plastic label on the front of the machine in front of the handlebars. I know they did put hilliard front ends in the 2002 sp 700 so maby they did in some magnums? I don't know without looking at it. Could you take a picture of it and post it for us? VIN is etched into the frame on the lower left frame behind the front left wheel.
