Default Starter Motor Problem

I have 90cc Chinese quad that I got like 5 years ago. when we got it, it didn't have a battery so we had to kick start it. It took 30 mins to start every time we went to ride it, then one day we just gave up because it took forever to start. Recently I have been trying to get running and I wanted to get electric start to have a better chance at starting. The idle gear and the gear on the starter motor were both rounded off so I bought new gear, starter motor and battery. I tried the starter motor before putting it in with jumper cables and it spun good, but when I put it in the quad and used the jumper cables it just tried to spin but couldn't. I have no idea what the problem could be. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can pull the spark plug and see if it spins over.Plus check all connections. You can recheck your work, but first try loosening the case bolts a tad and see if that helps. If it does then you know the shafts or gear are possibly in a bind when the case is tightened.

Thank you for the reply. Any connections shouldn't matter because I used the jumpers again so the only variable changing was if the starter was installed or not. As for the case, I have it in half right now because I had to replace the idle gear and am still waiting for the gasket for the case to come, so that shouldn't be a problem. What would removing the spark plug do?

Allow for the piston to tun over easily. Less load the starter would have on it.
