Tire size change effects?
#1
I just ordered the Maxxis Razr 6 ply 22's for the rear and 23's for the front going from stock tires. What effect will this have on my DS? What will I gain and what will I lose with this tire size? Do I need to change teeth on the sprockets, mine are stock. Are the Razers as good as I hear? I ride on hard, soft packed dirt, sand and mud here in Florida.

Your bike will have a 10% higher gearing meaning: you'll feel like you've lost a good amount of bottom end, and you'll also feel like you have a ton of top end. It's still very ridable, when I went to my 22/23" setup it wasn't any sort of problem to ride. If you are going to stick with the stock pipe/etc you'll want to change your countershaft sprocket to a 15 tooth instead of the stock 16 tooth. I am going to install an aftermarket pipe on my DS650 and see if I like the feel on that combo before I decide on the 15 tooth countershaft sprocket. I feel that you'll need to go one direction or the other if you run the 22" rears - either exhaust or the cheaper option being the sprocket.

I already have the Ron Woods pipe, muffler and CDI box. Been having a problem with Raptors getting me out of the hole and getting a 2-3 bike length head start on me. So the traction with the new 22's will help this BUT I'll lose acceloration. I don't want then to have anything over me, is the accerloration loss going to hurt me with the Raptors? I meen will they still be getting the "holeshot" on the DS as usual?

With your mods, I think you may wind up with perfection. When I was hillshooting I was doing 2nd gear starts no problem. I just would have liked to have had a little more RPM in third - (I was barely hitting mid 3rd on the short hill, if I had been hitting higher in 3rd I woulda done some serious whoopin') which either a pipe/power mods or a different countershaft sprocket would have likely done that for me.
