Hello all just joined this forum and love it. My issue is I have A viper 50rxi it all lights up but when i press the starter button the relay just clicks, I replaced the starter due to being bad and it seems like a dead short.
Ok heres what I did so far, Trued jumping the 2 red wired on the relay plug which should work due to batt on one side and wire to the starter on the other, IT MAKES A DEAD SHORT on my battery charger. looked at all the wires and no issues , Strange thing is if I pull the starter off the motor it works with the button but once put back SHORT. Has 1 positive wire and a green ground. WHAT AM I MISSING ? I used a meter and weird if I read between the + post of the starter and the cover it reads continunity WTF. old one did too

Seized engine? Or you didn't put the new starter in properly and have jammed the starter gears/chain.

 

 

It isn't a short, the starter motor windings don't have much resistance so you get negative right through it if you test the pos pole with it on the bike It only gets a pos feed once the solenoid clicks in.. Make sure the battery is in good condition and fully charged. If it works OK from an external battery, looks like the battery is your problem.

 

 

Ok im about to burn this thing to the ground. Just got A new battery . If i hold the starter in my hand it spins -If i TOUCH it to rhe metal of the enging it shorts, Its deffintly A ground out issue I just dont know why. Checked all wiring and its perfect. Dont know if the relay will cause this issue .HELP HELP HELP. Motor is not stuck or any =thing like that DEAD SHORT
