Default 1997 fourtax 300 2x4 and 2000 fourtrax 300 4x4 interchangeability
Can you take the motor off of a 1997 Fourtrax 300 2 x 4 and put it onto a 2000 fourtrax 300 4 x 4? are they interchangeable?

Yes, but you will lose 4WD as the alternator case and the transfer gearbox are different, and swapping these is not straightforward.
