400ex

Hey guys! I have a 2001 Honda 400ex and its air-cooled. I forgot to check it on Sunday and rode it for like 10 minites amd it sounded like it was starving for gas and shut off. Any ideas? Suggestions on what I should do?

Check for a spark, If no spark, try a new plug, if that doesn't work, either get it looked at or get the workshop manual and do the electrical tests. If it does have a spark, fit a new plug anyway and try it. If it still won't go, clean the carb out, and check fuel is getting to the carb If that doesn't fix it, do a compression test, should be at least 90psi.

I went out and checked the oil as it sat and there was maybe 3 Inches in the bottom but not enough to reach the dipstick. I tried turning it over but it just seems to clunk it sounds like. Like its locked?

Don't know the EX, if it has a pull start or Kick, try turning the engine using that, with the plug out, if it is stiff to turn or locked, you have seized it. Air cooled ATV engines usually lock on the small end (wrist pin) and/or piston. So you can usually get away with a new oversize piston + pin and re-bore.
