Default Automatic compression release mechanism

Could y'all tell me how the automatic compression release mechanism is supposed to be positioned in relation to the cam sprocket pin ( Decompressor arm stop pin). I'm not sure if it goes on the left or on the right side of the cam sprocket pin, see pic please. The rotation is counterclockwise, I took the pic from the drive clutch side of the engine. Also, any points of into on how that little latch works and how the mechanism functions in general is also greatly appreciated. Thanks for all your help!
