98 polaris express - help with oil ratio
#1
We have just put together a 300 xpress Polaris and can't figure out what to do with the oil mixture. Are we supposed to put just oil (50:1 or 32:1)? in the oil tank or do we mix it with gas and put it in the oil tank? What oil ratio do you recommend.
Thank you!!
Thank you!!

From what i read 32:1 is the safe spot mixed with gas and put directly into the fuel tank.
If your oil tank is working just gas into the gas tank and oil into the oil tank. The oil tank injection system takes care of the rest.

Thank you, so we have no clue if the oil tank works. When we turn on the atv the oil light turns on. Do you think we should just put 32:1 oil in the oil tank and see if it works or first mix the oil and gas into the gas tank? We bought this atv off a guy and we had to put it back together he never mentioned it when we bought it. Also is there any specific type of 32:1 oil we should get? sorry for all the questions, were new at this.

Im working on knowledge of two stroke and four stroke engines not just necessarily quads and a decent shade tree mechanic. Im not a expert at all. I also read alot.
Not knowing if it works or not i would mix 1 gal of gas at 32:1 in a can then put it in the gas tank. I would also put some 2st oil into the oil injection tank and see if the level drops after it has ran a little bit. If it does drop your probably good to go but if the level stays the same then its not working. You will either need to fix it or just continue to premix the gas before you put it in the tank.
A million choices for 2st oil. Pick a good name brand and mix it per directions. The bottle of 2st oil will have a chart that will tell you how many ounces to add to a gallon of gas to get the desired ratio.

I’m guessing you’ve been using this by now, but a little Polaris info here. If the oil light is on the oil level in the tank is low or the sensor is defective. If you aren’t sure if the oil is mixing itself into the fuel you have 2 options.
Just stop using the oil tank and put premix into the gas tank (32:1 or 40:1 or 50:1). From what I understand there’s no “right” mixture. You want as much oil as you can while still running well and not fouling plugs. For my Polaris youth Quads that seems to be 40:1
The other option is to use mixed at 32:1 in the gas tank and watch the level of the oil tank. If it’s working you’ll be smoking and maybe fouling plugs, but unless you can verify that the oil level in the tank is going down, I wouldn’t trust that it’s working enough to run straight gas in the tank.
As far as what oil to use, I’ve always been told to only use Polaris oil and I’ve never had the guts to risk anything else. Only thing I can say for sure is don’t go cheap on the oil.
