Foreman 400 no spark
#1
I got a 97 foreman not getting spark. All parts are oem no Chinese stuff. And the cdi and rectifier are brand new oem. It doesn't matter if I use pull cord or electric start I still don't have spark. Only thing left to replace is the stator but I don't want to keep putting money into with out knowing my problem. Any help would be more than greatly appreciated.

Before spending any money on parts, always do the ignition circuit tests at the CDI plug. Make sure the green/white is a good earth. With ignition on, you should get 12v positive at the black/white, a 12v incandescent test lamp is better for this than a meter as you can get 12v on a meter with hardly any amps getting through. Light green/red wire should be earthed when bike is in neutral. Using a voltmeter, check you get some AC volts between blue/yellow (pulse coil) and earth when engine is spun on starter. Finally check you get an AC voltage between any two phases (yellow wires) at the voltage regulator plug when engine is spun on starter, also check all three phases have roughly the same resistance and are not earthed. If they all test as good, that leaves the coil, which is the one thing (besides the spark plug) I do substitute, as they are easy to get at and cheap.
