Recon carburetor question
#1
I have a 2014 Recon that need a carburetor. I found one for $145, but I also see that a 2016 carburetor is only $72.
My question is, will to 2016 carb work on my 2014? Anyone know what is different?
Thanks
Paul

Post 2014 Recons have a horrible complex "air valve" system stuck on the cylinder head, I assume some sort of emissions reduction system. Checking part numbers, the carb has a different main jet needle, maybe other stuff too. Personally, I would take a chance on one of those cheapo Chinese replacements for $25. What is wrong with your old carb?

Thanks for that info. Don't think I'll risk using the 2016 carb. I've looked at the Chinese versions but some folks have developed issues over time. Probably will stay with original Honda part. I just bought the Recon a couple of days ago. It needs some work...lots of parts already ordered.
During the test ride I noticed that it will only idle with the choke on and it pop on deceleration. I know the previous owner has done work on the carb in the past. Plus it's obvious that he let it sit for a long time with bad gas in it so rather than try to sort out what he did I figured a replacement carb was easier.
Thanks again!

Recons won't idle cold without choke. Don't know why Honda have persisted so long with that carb. The CD carb fitted to 300 to 450 models of 15 to 30 years ago gave a smooth idle, that slide carb never does. Hot, the Recon should idle OK, if a bit "splashy" so, with fresh fuel and the carb cleaned out, it should idle OK when hot.
