06’ Trailblazer sprocket mount replacement issue

I have a 2006 trailblazer and cannot get the new sprocket mount on. It gets about 2” to the spline the it gets very tight. The axle is a tapered axle. The replacement sprocket mount is OEM. I was thinking about beating it on but afraid I’ll mess it up. Anyone have any thoughts?
