Hard to believe there are no other suckers out there but me who have acquired one of these machines.... maybe they're all too embarrassed to post, but I sacrificed my ego long ago to the altar of these chinese UTVs.
So - shot in the dark here. We picked this one up a year ago, 3rd hand, looks to be low mileage. Probably because it spent most of its time parked while the previous owners (like me) tried to find a parts source for it.
The current challenge - it's gone through THREE fuel pumps since last August. We order from the only parts supplier we can find - in China - wait months, and slap it on once it arrives. Turn the the key and the fuel pump vibrates... doesn't seem like it should be that noisy. The most recent one lasted perhaps an hour of total runtime.
This is the only mode of transport for my elderly father on his farm, and I need to get thee darn thing going. No more waiting months for a part that isn't going to survive a day's worth of work.
I'm an academic, not a mechanic, though I did grow up on a farm, tore down my motorcycle and rebuilt it, familiar with tooling and multimeter usage, etc. Not an idiot (don't ask my wife). This shouldn't be this friggin' hard.
Question: The logical brain of mine tells me I shouldn't waste time trying to find the "right" fuel pump... that any 12v pump with the same flow rate and power connector should work. Heck, I'll duct tape it to the frame if it doesn't match up to the mounting bracket. Tell me I'm not out to lunch... please!
I'm willing to put in a little more work on this thing, but the gas jug + matches solution is looking more attractive every minute....
Now for those of you wondering how quickly karma can kick you in the butt....
I pulled the plug, cleaned it off, and the darn thing started right up.
I am chagrined.
I think what's happening is the old fella just uses it to putt around the farm, and it never gets a good run at higher RPMs. The plug carbons up and that keeps it from starting.
What I don't understand is how slapping a new fuel pump on it achieved the same result the last two times.
D'oh is me. Will do the basics in the future -check the plug first - before going off screaming on the internet.
