Hi everyone. I have been using your forum for a long time but never posted until now. I just picked up a 99 Wolverine. It was cheap as it needs some work. I've fixed everything except this leak. What's the best way to deal with it?
It's leaking out of that bottom bolt hole as the previous owner snapped the bolt heads off and attempted to extract them. In so doing, he drilled right through so it leaks oil when started.
Am I best off buying a new cover, or is there a product that would seal it well enough? If replacement is best, is there a good spot to buy ATV parts that are this old?
Does not look like he drilled it very central either. If it has been re-tapped, and the pull start fits OK, I would try putting gasket "goo" on the thread before bolting up. There are special sealants for threads, loctite makes one, or ptfe tape, if normal gasket sealant doesn't work. But, with a bolt in it, it shouldn't leak much anyway, so if it still weeps I would probably "live with it".
Partzilla and other on line dealers list all available genuine parts and even with "no longer available" items, you can get the part number from them and google it to find new old stock, pattern, or used parts.
