It is worth a couple of hp... it also depends on how much your cylinders are ported and how much they are flowing. Cut a set of base gaskets to match your cylinders, and the use them as a template to scribe lines on your case. I ususally use a little bit of yamabond on the gaskets when i put it back together since the gaskets are usually cut pretty thin...

You can match the cylinders on anything, ported mild, ported wild, bone stock...You're going to see the most gain on a set of ported cylinders, but if you're feeling spunky and don't mind spending some time doing it, then it can be done to an otherwise bone stock engine. I wouldn't go out and pay money to have it done to a set of stock cylinders, but if you've got your cases apart for some reason then you can match things up yourself with a die grinder or dremel.

 

yeah i guese i will try it out because i will have the cases apart, i need to replace a crank seal.

Use the base gasket as a template. Compare the base gasket to the cylinder, then to the top case. If there is cylinder block material exposed past the edge of the base gasket, remove that material. If there is gasket mating surface exposed past the edge of the base gasket on the top case, remove that material. If the base gasket protrudes past the edge of the case or cylinder, trim the base gasket...

can i destory the cylinders and case? i mean i can understand going too far will definately destroy it, but is there anything else that can defeat the whole pupose of porting the cases?

i am pretty much sure i am going to try this out, i would like to get as much out of the motor as i can, without spended hundreds of dollars (which i dont have, im 17) to get it up there in horsepower/torque.

by the way, will i "feel" any difference when i put it all back together and get out of the trails? how much does this add to stock ported cylinders? (i have T5s, 20over weisco's, no lid, jetted, and i am going to add a veto timing advance, and maybe lighten the flywheel)

 

Go slow, take you time, you can always cut it twice. The proper tool and technique goes a LONG ways...Don't half *** a $1500 engine...

The gains are going to be small, maybe not even discernable, but it's not going to hurt if done properly either...
