Im am wanting to sell my junk I have now and get a Raptor. I want a Raptor Badly but of the 2nd gear problems, Carb Problems. I was wandering is Yamaha is gonna fix all them when they come out with the 2002 models? I will be getting a Raptor on July 2nd and I want one badly but if there not gonna fix then im not gonna get one.

How do I keep the carb's on the quad?

How do I keep 2nd gear in my quad instead tore up?

Thanks For Your Time...

The carb problems seems to be from small pilots. I don't know of anyone thats changed their pilots to 27.5 (like I have) that's had this problem since the upgrade.

Second gear is still up in the air. I have heard it's from the bike accidently hitting reverse instead of second, from an understrenghted gear design, or people just beating on it. Who knows for sure...

Over all I love my Raptor. Not a single REAL complaint yet...

Brad

PS.. Think big gun exhaust once you get it, wow, what a difference..

I didn't know there was a big carb problem, having the boots pop off isn't the end of the world, its well worth having a machine with that mucb power, I've rode the raptor we have hard, haven't had a problem with the carbs, or the tranny. (knock on wood) Just get one, i dont think you will regret it. and if you do end up not liking it, it wouldn't be hard to sell.

I have had both problems, they are suspose to be fixed on the Raptors now!! The carb boots were poping of from a lean backfire which was caused from a lean condition at idle, I have readjusted the idle screws and have had no trouble since!! Yamaha is replacing the boots and have new idle mixture settings that they will do under warrenty if you ask about it. I had the secound gear break too, I heard this was caused from a gear cut that was weak, they now have a diffrent cut and from my understanding any Raptor from about vin# 6000 and up has this new cut gear. The part number is the same but it is a new gear! So even if you get a 2001 Raptor right now you should be all set.

DieHard--> About this second gear upgrade. If I ask my dealer to do it...would Yamaha cover the cost? (or do they wait for something to break first?) If not covered and if mine is the old gear...how many hours would it take the dealer to switch, at my expense of coarse?

I think all these problems are exagerated a bit. How could a company like Yamaha spend tons of $$$$ and time in R&D and overlook such small things that can be such big problems? Beats the h*ll out of me!!

OK.. where did you get the 6000 number? Are you sure.. or is this something you heard from your brothers cousins uncles dogs best friend?

I have #17000 something, so I hope I'm good, however my best friend has a #5500 or so..

Trying to find out more

Thanks
Brad
