Bash, I had a problem with mine shifting and tried very hard to get my dealer to do something about it with no luck, I had been in like 2 hours before the tranny broke complaining of clutch fade which wasnt helping the shifting out any and was kinda glad to call them to say it had broke!!! I had them put in heavier clutch springs which helped out the clutch fade also.

Xplor, I cant seem to find my receipt for the tranny, I have every other one of course!! I will see if i can get a copy from my local dealer to be sure on the price because I know it broke more then one gear when it happened.

BansheeBrad, I can't blame you, I would like to hear this from another person too. I'm sure the tech. wasn't filling me full of STUFF but like to see how close the #s match for the cut off, by the way mine is 4330.

I had the tranny problem where 4th gear goes out and takes at least one friend with it.
My number is 8776 which is inconsistant with the 6000 theory.

Rot Roh Raggy...

We have a flaw in the 6000 theory..

OK.. new Theory.. I bought it mid April which give me warranty till Mid October, Prime riding season. Ride it like you stole it for 6 months and see if it holds up!!

I am seriously considering the 3 year Yamaha Yes Plan.. I don't want to wrench on this thing, but I have until october to figure it out.

I own a 2001 Raptor with serial number ending with #...000092. I am worried about my tranny, but I have had no problems with it so far. Sometimes I hit neutral when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. Does my serial number mean mine was the 92nd quad made when production started. I picked mine up on August 30, 2000. I have had no problem with the carbs blowing off and I also adjusted my valves. The intake valves were very tight so I had to loosen them up. The exhaust valves were good.

How many hours are the guys with tranny problems have on their quad. I have only about 40-50 hours on mine. I hope this tranny problem is an isolated occurance.

I think somewhere in another thread someone mentioned this. But is hitting false-neutral from 1st to 2nd under hard acceleration an early indication of the tranny problem to come?

Yamaboy,

I'm not going to tell you that for sure your going to have problems, but I will tell to beware of the "false neutrals" when shifting from 1st to 2nd. I experienced the same false neutrals and was told to quit using reverse to see if it would go away, it did. About two to three months of not having anymore false neutrals my tranny began to lock up. It got stuck in 1st gear twice and I had to shut the bike down and mess with the shifter by hand until it would come out of 1st. This happened twice and then a couple of weeks later 2nd gear felt like the chain was skipping across the sprocket. Although some may say the chain is loose (yada, yada, yada)or that it is a similar chain related problem, it wasn't the chain. After taking it into the dealer and having them tear it apart the "toothed washer", "shift drum", 2nd and 4th gears were all damaged and had to be replaced.

So again, I don't want to tell you that you will have problems, but beware of the false neutrals you are currently experiencing! Suggestion,(I would think about taking it in now, before too much gets damaged and so it is documented by your dealer)

Oh, and to answer your other questions, I had approx 250 hours on my Raptor when the tranny finally took a sh*t (2 weeks out of warranty). The last digits of the serial # is the production #, so yes you have # 92, I have # 24?? something (twenty-four hundred something).

Sorry for the long post, just trying to help!
