My buddy has a new blaster with only a couple rides on it.When you rev it high, you can hear an audible ticking or knocking, even from 30-40 feet away.I don't think that should be happening, is that normal?

That doesnt sound normal, I dont personally own a blaster, But own a banshee. Depending on where the noise is coming from it could be very serious. Tell your friend to get it checked out (unless he knows about 2 stroke motors and blasters) by a shop. It might be wise to just try running a higher grade fuel first, It might be detonation due to poor fuel.

Is it when it revs high, then lets off you can hear it? On mine you can hear it only in first or second and its when the engine is slowing down fronm revving high. I have no clue what it is but it doesn't appear to be hurting it. It still has a good bore to it, the gaskets were in very good condition when I took off the head, and my tranny still works perfectly. I run regular 87 with maxima super m premix. When I'm done rebuilding it I am switching to at least 89. Get it checked out - It might be nothing, it might be something.

Do you mean it is right from the dealer? If he is revving a new egine that high he will do some damage since it won't break in properly.

Is it stock? If it is heavily modded it may need a higher octane gas!

Exactly Dirt, in first or second when you rev it high and you let off it knocks and pretty loud. The bike is real new and I completly forgot about the break in, I bet he never broke it in.I wasn't around when he bought it and I didn't even think of that, too late now.As far as I know its 87 octane, maybe I'll tell him to try a higher octane, its a completely stock machine. Thanks for the help.

Take off the cylinder head and see if the pistin wiggles or has any free play. If it does then he screwed up the top end requiring a new bore and piston/rings/clips. If it doesn't move, try higher octane gas. Either way if he removes the head, make sure he buys a brand new gasket.
