This is the story.. My 'shee runs great through the gears, no sputtering, bogging etc. But when I'm wide open in 6th and then let off the gas quick to slow down it dies. I'm running Toomey pipes, race port, advanced timing, 320 mains, Toomey needles, no airbox lid, at sea level. Any suggestions???

I could be the T.O.R.S. system. That stupid thing was designed to kill the spark when the throttle sticks. It might think you're having a problem and try to kill the engine. Try unplugging the wire harness at the top of the carbs. If you still have a problem it might be more serious than that.

Just as "dirt817" above explained, thr T.O.R.S. system is crappy and known to give problems. If you unplug the T.O.R.S. system, you also need to unplug 1 electical box. Pull the gas tank off, because it's just under the front of the tank, and as you are sitting on the bike, it will be just behind the steering stem on the left side, the right side will be you ignition coil for your plugs. If that electrical box isn't unplugged, it can give you a false spark, or weak spark eventually. Simple solution, order a Motion Pro twist grip w/the idle kit, this will eliminate the T.O.R.S. system alltogether.

Hey man i have a 2000 Warrior and it also dies in 6th gear wide open. I guess this is a safety feature on the Yamahas. I think it sucks that it does that but what can you do.

Make sure the gas cap is venting. Crack it open to see if it makes any difference. Make sure fuel flows normally - check filter at valve (I think there's a screen on the feed pipe). Valve needs to be removed from tank to check.

If filter is not attached to valve, some debris may have entered into the carb(s) and settled at needle valve restricting fuel flow at prolonged WFO operation.

To disconnect the TORS you need to follow the wires coming from the throttle to 1 of the 2 little black boxes under the hood, disconnect it, this will set the TORS off or activate it, to disconnect it you need to unplug the wires coming from the top of the carbs also. The TORS will bring the idle down but it wont kill it, if you touch the throttle when its activated it will just bogg and want to die but if you let off it will go back to idle speed.

It doesnt sound like the TORS but it could be.. I'd take the gas cap off, flip it over, unscrew and take all the crap out, cut the vent hose short, my blaster would die WOT 6th gear it was because it was getting airlocked and would eventually starve for fuel. Anyways.. good luck.
