Well after letting my raptor sit a week from the disgust of a broken trans and it being off of warranty i went out to the shop and tore it down today. I found that the problem was a broken off ear on 4th gear. Witch is the problem with 2nd and reverse. 4th gear runs both 2nd and reverse so that is the reason some people have been having problems with fourth gear. The new 4th gear is supposed to have longer and wider ears on it for more solid gear changes. I was going to let my dealer do it since he said he would cover it even if yamaha wont(but yamaha did any way off warranty,Way to go Yamaha!)Their payig for the parts and i am doing the labor plus getting a few extras from my dealer for not making them do the work. i decided i would tear it down myself and see what the real deal is. Well i will let you all know for sure what the new gear looks like when it gets here. Its supposed to be here wednsday or thursday. The weird thing with the trans is that all the gears have normal big ears on them like most bikes do except for the 4th gear. This doesnt make any sense. Well hopefully the new gear helps and fixes the problem. This was alot of work and not recomended for the average backyard mechanic. Since its apart i think i willmaybe order up a cam and port it. Never hurts to get a little more power out of the deal.

Brad, that would be interesting to know. I read about that 6000 unit fix thing but don't know if it's true or not. I'm hoping that it is because I've got bike 17,480.
