2500 # warn winch for 500rse

anybody ever put a warn 2500# winch on a polaris sportsman 500rse without removing the bumper??? why is it that you can put a 2000# winch on a 500rse and upgrade to a 2500# winch with an upgrade kit but can't use the 2500# to start with??? One dealer told me that their were adapter plates to do the 2500#....in polaris catalog...the 2000# and the 2500# looks like the same....
