The chain on my 400ex is getting quite dirty from stuf sticking to the chain lube. I would like to clean it but I'll be darned if I can find a master link to take it apart. Is there just no master link or am I blind. I have heard someone in here talk abought dipping the chain in hot atf to clean it. Is this a recomendable procedure or is there a better way? And if there actually is no master link what is the best way to clean it on the machine. Any info would be helpful. Thanks for any replies.

No, there is no master link on the 400ex chain. If you want to remove it, you need to remove the front cover and loosen the chain per the owners manual instructions and slide it off. I clean mine by puting the rear of the machine on the jack and taking kerosene and a soft brush and lightly scrubbing the chain by rotating the chain by spinning the tires. It really cleans it up. I then let it dry overnight and then reapply the chain lube. Hope this helps.
