I am 15 and my dad and I are looking to get a 300ex. We checked one out that had $1000 in xtras-white bros exhaust, k&n filter, nerfs, skids. That one is $3000. The guy selling it did some cross country racing(no MX) about once a month since 98'. He constantly changed the oil and kept up on maitnence. That is the only time he rode it(his yard is 20x20) but I am sure when he did he rode it hard. I wanted to know if the engine would possibly get messed up soon after I got it even though he maintaned it excellent. There is another 97 for sale. It is stock and the guy barely rode it. That is 3300. I would like the extras though. What do you all say. Thanks a lot

The engine could mess up, but remember its a Honda so it should be bulletproof. Do a compression check.......that should tell you.

Unless he did alot of internal mods (Cam,piston, ect) the engine should be reliable. I would be more worried about the condition of the axle and a-arms. Make sure nothing is bent. Look at the rear skid plate and see if it struck the rear disk, there would be grooves directly under the rear disk it the plate struck the disk. See if the axle is bent. Also look at the wheels and see if there any dents in them. Just because one was not raced doesn't mean the the crap wasn't run out of it.
