i called yamaha customer service today,WHAT A FREEKING JOKE!basicly was told there is not a wide spred trans problem and that the 2002 gears have a differnt ratio but are not any stronger than 2001,THAT OUT TO MAKE ALL THE POTENTIAL RAPTOR BUYERS WANA RUN RIGHT OUT AND BUY ONE.by buring there heads in the sand i hope their 02 sales go in the toilet!I WOULD NOT RECOMNED ANYONE BUY A RAPTOR UNTIL YAMAHA PRODUCES A CURE FOR THIS PROBLEM AND A RECALL FOR PEOPLE THAT HAVE THEM NOW.ct racing is working on a set of aftermarket gears so those of us with raptors we may have a cure soon,at our own exspense.if i was in the market for a 02 model i would wait 8-9 months to see if they hold up.

Do any of us really know WHAT the hell to believe? Truth? What's that?...people just tell you whatever they want you to hear. Whatever Yamaha's up to, they're doing it on the QT so as not to rile us 2001 owners. Only THEY know what if anything has been done. Then us guinea pigs get to go out and prove them right or wrong.

I happened to talk to CT racing yesterday, and they mentioned that they do have billet gears for the Raptor trans. Dont know if they are available for sale yet, but they said they were putting some in a trans that day. Could be interesting.

The only reason the dealer is telling you the '02 Raptor gears and axle is not different than the '01, is becaause that would be admitting that Yamaha made a few mistakes on the '01 Raptor.

my dealer didnt tell me that. yamaha customer service told me that,i told them i thought it was pretty stupid for them to tell me that because one of my riding buddies was going to order a 2002 and he knows there is a design flaw with the 2001.he figures like most of us the main reson they redesigned the trans is to make it stronger and it was a perfect opertunity to change the ratios so the magazines didnt have that to complain about and provided a good excuse for the redesign.why would you tell people that you did not strengthen the gears in the 2002 when they know the 2001 suck?doesnt seem like a good way to promote 2002 sales to me.theyd be way better off admidting the problem and letting people know they are working on a cure.

You are absolutely RIGHT! They screwed up and should just admit it to get more sales. Right now alot of people are afraid to buy a Raptor and I would be too, especially when Yamaha says there is nothing wrong and the '02's are the same as the '01 Raptor! I would love to buy a Raptor, but until they make some serious changes, I will stay with the 400ex.
