help me convince the wife that I need a ds.

I curently have a 4 month old 400ex. I got this because a new ds was out of my price range. Now my honda dealer has just took in a used 01 ds that I thought was new. Who ever owned it never rode it and traded it for a bike. It seriously looks like new, the tires show almost no wear at all. He is asking $ 5900 and will give me $4600-4700 for my ex. I hope to be able to talk him into a flat thousand difference. Is this a good deal or should I stay with the ex. Thanks for any info.

Trade-in, retail, wholesale, rebate, whatever. New 2001 DS MSRP is $6500, That's what I got mine for, including tax and license, out the door. That was before their new Promotion. The MSRP on mine 3 months ago was still $6999. But they did have some promotion and accessory stuff going on which we cashed in on the purchase price.
Anyway, Your 400 EX and a grand? DO IT. Use what I told you to help grind the guy down, and try not to go over a grand.

OH, YOUR WIFE!! Honey, this thing is just too small for me. I need to get rid of it before the trade-in value falls through the floor! This new DS will save us thousands of dollars, it already has all the stuff I wanted for the EX.
(you might not want to mention right off that we all like/want/have, K&N, any kind of pipe-even an end-cap job, better tires, adjustable upper a-arms, front shocks, CDI-with no or raised rev limiter.) But you don't need major motor mods, or a fancy pipe, nor do you need wheels or full a-arms with tie rods and extended brake lines or swingarms or axles. Even the handlebars are good. I still want some nerfs for mine, just gave up looking.

You can always use the safety issue with her as well, if that carries any weight. Since the DS is wider and longer, it's less likely to tip and hurt you.
If you ever ride double with her[like they tell us not to] point out that the DS has a much larger and more comfortable seat.
It sounds like you found a good deal, I hope you jump on it.

Sory to say i decide not to get that one. She started talking abought new fernicher (spelling ?) for the house. She let me have my ex this spring and now I will have to be happy for a few more months. On the brighter side my honda dealer just got confermation today abought getting the Bombardier lineup. so it will only be a matter of time (short i hope) before I bring home a ds of my own. Thanks for the info and input.

Be a MAN about it for crying out loud!! Tell her what's up. Tell her the advantages of bean bag furniture. It's cheap, moves easily, and makes a nice addition to any home. I'm sure she'll understand. And in the process you will be saving enough money to buy two bikes. If she doesn't see how much you truely need a new bike, then it's time to find someone who can.
and yes I'm not serious
