Anyone know a good brand of paint that can be used to paint the stock plastic of a 400ex? Do I need a spray paint or can I brush it on. I'm looking for some paint that won't chip or crack under normal wear.

any ideas?

Fenders can be painted, but requires some special prep and type paint. The best paint that I have found is paint used to paint air dams and bumpers on new cars. Flex agent can be added to other paints, but often dulls the final product some.

Painting plastic presents some serious issues to get it to stick, flex, and look good. Plastic is derived from petroleum sources...so it's always kind of greasy and slick. Getting it to flex, plastic flexes--allot, getting paint to not chip or peel when flexed is difficult. Getting it too look good, requires spot-on prep, type paint, and good application.

Stop by an automotive paint store. You're likely to find for total materials around $120-$150. Must be applied by a spray gun. Rattle can works for awhile, but then goes to $#!+ really quick.

 

Can you reccomend some rattle can's that you've found to work?

What specific things should I ask for in the automotive paint store?

Have you found some color's look better/ last longer than others? (I"m thinking black)

Talk to the sales help behind the counter and tell them what you are going to be painting...bring a part in if you can so that they are sure of what you're up to.

Lighter colors tend not to show scratches and will sometimes fade less in the sun. Black is bugger, it shows every bit of dirt and hi-lites every scratch...
