scrambler vs rubicons/explorers/sportsmans in the mud
#1
I went riding over the weekend. I have a 500 4X4 and my riding buddies all have utility quads. I pretty much rule the trails and big hill climbs, but when we get to water and mud crossings, I am the one usually getting pulled out. The utility quads are able to drive down one side of the hole and out the other. I've tried that and usually have to get pulled out the other side.
I decided to attack a smaller hole a little bit differently this last time - figured I'd hit it with a lot of momentum and "skip" across. Almost made it, skipped twice and then did a submarine. Lucky for me I was about 90% of the way through when I nose dived. Made it out, but had a lot of water in the belt area - had to wait for it to dry out.
Questions are: - Will a set of taller, mud type tires help out? I need some recommendations for a trail tire that does better in mud than the stock tires I have now. I have aluminum rims in the stock sizes also.
What's the best way to dry the drive belt out after a dunking? Any way to water proof that area?
Thanks!

as far as water proofing goes, check out denniskirk.com they have some transmission seal,
for tires.....
on the rear i have 25 inch realters, these are bad boys, i havent got stuck in anything, i have the stocks up front ,and even with the tire size difference, the AWD still works flawlessly,
as for loss of power, my scrambler can still wheelie from a dead stop, and from a rolling start, and i have pulled my freinds quad out of the mud a few times

The correct way to dry out your belt is to get the quad in a dry area, put it in neutral and ''rev'' the engine up for a few minutes. This will allow the water in the belt area to spit out of the exaust port on the belt housing. After this is done, ride your quad at a snails pace for a mile or so.Thats all there is to it,and best of luck,
