I am looking for a decent GPS that does not cost too much. Does anybody have one they are happy with that did not cost to much? Thanks

Great question,
Im certain there are many that will show where you have been, but for me, I prefer the Garmin GPS 3 or better yet the Garmin GPS 3+ , reason, they both have a map built into the memory and you can see where the roads are that you might be getting close to.
Also the added feature of the 3+ is you can add local maps from the CD-Rom map and it gives great detail.
Both give good elevation info etc, I feel your kidding your self when you purchase the el-cheapo models, heck you can be within a few yards of a road, river, railroad etc and not know it. I have proven this feature a few times to my brother whom is very hard headed, but he is now a beleiver and purchased one.
Anyway get what ever you like and enjoy it.

I've got an Etrex also it works good for me but I never thought about the advantage of having a built in map. If something happens to mine I may look into one of them. How do you carry yours I carry mine in a Nokia cell phone case, it clips right on my handlebars.

I like my Ram Swivel Mount for my Garmin GPSII+, the mount costs about $35 and they have cradels for most GPS's, only a little ball on the bars when not in use and you can move it around anywhere, email me if you would like photo's

Hay, Thanks for the info on the GPS's. I like the idea of the built in map. Sounds like the way to go. It would be great to know exactly where you are and see the roads. The mount with swivel ball sounds perfect and also the tank mount. I will check them out. Thanks again.

Mudcat,
I use the Garmin mount on the handlebars.
There are a few reasons why I prefer the handlebar mount over a pocket or cell phone bag, when riding in the woods, there is already a path loss from the satelite, coupled with the restrictive bad or pocket, the quality of signal will suffer. Sooner or later you will find this a problem.

Remember, it does not matter where you are, but which way and how far to where you want to be.

Good luck
