Just got off the phone will the local dealer,
there going to come out in late Sept. or early Oct. Somewhere around 7000 units, black and gray or black and silver only he was told. Also, it's a "in-line" 700, he believes it too be a sleeved 780, sled motor.
Price $7399 firm! He will have more next week when the rep. shows up as far as other upgrades, he said this is going to happen, The reps. have been riding then for weeks now...

If there is any truth to this, it will be interesting to see how Polaris kept the width of a 700 cc. inline engine to a useable limit.

I know some more stuff. IT will be just grey, chrome wheels, same tires as the new 4 wheeled rangers, in line shifter. I think the brake system is different also.

The Dealer next to me said there is no way a 700 Twin in any model will be released this year. He said he has talked to his Polaris Rep many times and his rep said it was in the works but would not come out in 2002. I think he is telling the truth because he is very pissed at Polaris right now his sales on Sportsman's are reflecting with the release of Yamaha Grizzly, Kawasaki 650 and the Bombardier Quest 650.

I wish Polaris would step up to the plate the have had since 96 when the Sportsman released to develop a better Sportsman and they are now waiting longer than any of the other manufactures to release something exciting. The Scrambler is the same way the have taken forever to redesign that to compete in the sport quad market.

All I can say is I hope Polaris Stock starts dropping to wake up the exec's over there at Polaris to start producing the best quads on the market again.

man4922, your dealer is quite wrong. The 700 will be released this fall as stated above. Also, I think that they may be upping the performance of the 700 twin for a scrambler model, not sure on that one though.

BORING......Wake me up when it gets here! Everything that is being said about the NEW 700 Twin Sportsman is a carbon copy of threads from last year about a NEW 700 Twin Sportsman for 2001! We even had a guy that worked at the Polaris Plant in Roseau that was giving us "inside " info on it....It cracks me up to see people saying how much better and faster and how it will out perform the Kawi and the Grizz when all it is right now is a RUMOR!! I'm not saying that the 700 won't come out, but I'm not going to hold my breath, and I'm certainly not going to start comparing it to, or say how much better it is then ATV's that are allready on the market. Please keep posting, this stuff cracks me up
