I dont know about any of you but at this point I dont know if I even care about the mystery machines. I have waited since late of 01 when I finally had talked my wife into adding another quad to hear or see something any type of positive proof would have been acceptable. Now here we are and Polaris has posted their 02 line-up and nothing new. I realize that there "maybe" more coming but Im tired of waiting for maybe. I love my Polaris and have nothing but great things to say about it, I even have converted 2 riding buddies into new Sportsmans over the past 2 years. With Kawasaki and Yamaha both stepping into the large displacement arena with what so far appears to be very capable quads Polaris may have lost a sale here. Im sure Im going to hear "you'll be sorry" but isnt it Polaris that has dropped the ball on this one ?
With all of this 680 or 700 and whatever else rumor that has been typed a thousand times over about the "new" Sportsman what ever happened to the line of thought that maybe Polaris should look towards the sport line-up, something a bit lighter and quicker. I hope Polaris does add a new Sportsman but I will be very dissapointed if thats where it stops. Its time the Scrambler line was updated and a long overdue entry into the true sport quad market sure would be nice to see.
A few months back everyone was standing in line to take a swing at Jack Schultz for talking about how stagnant Polaris had become but who can argue with him now that we are sitting here in the beginning of August and not one solid glimmer of hope other than one rumor after another. I can easily remember all of the posts saying that "there will be a sport quad thats light and fast" or "wait and see the new fuel injected 700 twins". Im sure anyone that read the posts will remember them well. Now all that we care about is getting something, anything at all. No one seems to care if the new Sportsman has anything other than a 700cc engine.
Maybe Im asking for to much I do realize that the other manufacturers have alot of dated models in their line-ups, but I also see Yamaha releasing a killer sport quad and then less than a year later or even 6 months later hitting the market with a 660 Griz. What was our last NEW quad ? Oh yea thats right a 2x4 Scrambler.
Come on Polaris get your act together.

Man alive, have you been reading any of the other posts here or what? I do know a lot of stuff about Polaris and thier future but I cannot post it here, I wish I could, but I can't. The Sportsman 700 is comming out this fall, duh! It is the fastest, most high performance full size 4 -wheel drive quad out there. I know for a fact it beats all the others of its kind. Onto the sport machines. There are new ones comming, that is all I can say! Polaris has many new projects in the works and new ideas every day. You would not even begin to imagine all of the things they think of there, its downright crazy. Usually, you stick with one brand, stay with them. It seems like all you people around here only want what is new and popular and can beat the other guy. All this brand switching, just stick with one, it is a lot easier. If you really belive in a company, you don't give up on them this easily. Anyways, do what you want...

Scram500Man,
with great reluctance i have to agree with you. all these rumors for all these months and NO PRODUCT!
if an auto mfg. had something special comming-out later in the year, they would still list it, and make a little footnote saying 'mid-year introduction'
it's that simple!

at this point i really doubt there is anything special for the 2002 polaris line up.

stop waiting for the unknown and buy what you want now and get-out there and do some great riding!

'be loyal to polaris?' - try emailing them with a question- they will ignore you and never respond!

(sorry for being so negative)

MT

If everybody always waited to buy things because something better was on the way nobody would even own a quad. It doesn't matter what is released because eventually something better will come along eventually. Especially the way that the 4x4 wars are going now.

This may be an exagerated comparision, but look at the way the computer industry is. When I bought my PII 400 computer a few years back it was a top of the line machine. I ordered it and said to myself "Haha, I'll have the fastest computer possible". Well, it took them 3 weeks to deliver it, and by the time I got the computer and everything set up, they had just released the PIII 450mhz. In the last 3 years the computer industry has even gotten worse (in this aspect...I actually think it's good) when it comes to situations like that. You litterally CANNOT have the fastest processor available, because by the time they release one to the public, they have another faster one waiting to roll off of the production line.

ATV's are basically the same way if you think about it. There used to be a time when you could go out and buy a quad and not even have to worry about something better coming along. Maybe because the demand for them wasn't as high or something...I don't know. Now, you can almost be certain that within a year a new model will come out with a bigger engine, or more features, or prettier colors, or whatever.

My point is, that it is nice to have THE BEST when it comes out, but is it worth sacrificing the enjoyment you could be having right now? For some people it is, but for some it isn't. This topic comes up so much. There is a simple answer....If you want a quad NOW, you only have the choice of what is available. Regardless if the Sportsman 700 is a myth or not IF YOU WAIT LONG ENOUGH SOMETHING BETTER WILL COME ALONG. Those are your two choices.

I too am anxious to see what Polaris may be bringing to the table, but hey if I had cash in hand right now for a new quad, I don't think that I could wait that long.

Polaris will fill the hit this year in sales if they don't do something soon.
My dad was waiting to by the new sportsman but yesterday I told him to buy the new Grizzly so he should be getting one this weekend and I am selling my 99 sportsman this fall and guess what I am going to buy it won't be Polaris. That is two sells lost $14,000 to $15,000 that Polaris will not get which they would have if they had gotten off there lazy butts and had a new quad ready for this year. How long can Polaris go with the same old quads that came out 5 to 6 years ago. I know my dealer next to me is already filling the pain in lost sells. I too am sick of the rumors about a 700 I have waited long enough if they had a 700 they should have released it with there 2002 line up. Ever one that is waiting for the 700 should just go out and buy what you want today there are several great 4 wheelers out on the market that you can buy today also if a 700 does come out it will probable weight 800 or 900 pounds knowing Polaris. I say we have waited to long for this rumor of a 700. I have yet to see anyone on this forum give us any proof. Both Yamaha and articat I saw spy photos months before they released if there was a 700 why has no one seen it and gotten spy photos? I thinks the whole rumor is just that a rumor!
