Raptor Upper A-Arms - Piece of Junk!
#1
Was out riding the raptor today - Was going down a hill at had a bump about halfway down it. Gased it, front end came down it dipped to the right and to the front and pitched me off the front of the quad. I'm okay (other than a scrated up back), but look at my upper a-arm. There is NO WAY that a-arm should have bent that easy. There is a link to a picture of it at the bottom of this message. I'm gonna go into the dealer tommorrow and see what they say. They better replace it (it's still under warrantee), but I KNOW they're gonna give me a hard time and say I was jumping it when I wasn't...

Called the dealer. I guessed correctly. He said I could bring it in, and the would look at it, but he said Yamaha probably will not cover it. He said alot of people have been complaining about weak A-arms on the Raptor and Yamaha said they will not replace them. When he said this, I said "That should tell them something." He got quite then. :-). Regardless, this looks like an uphill battle. Looks like some aftermarket A-arms might be going on the Raptor. (I would just claim this under my insurance, but I have a $250 deductable. I don't think that top A-arm is worth that much).

I was thinking, perhaps you crashed because the arm bent? It then took off on you (wheels all over the place) and you crashed?
A friend just crashed my raptor very bad. He was riding along a trail fast, pulled a big wheelie over a large bump, then when he slammed down (rather hard - he miss timed it) the quad went hard right into a car that was parked there. Result: big endo - right a-arms almost ripped off, ripped up plastic all round, 3 bent rims, bent bars etc etc.
I found the accident so puzzling - so did my friend. We put it down to pilot error. But he says he just doesn't know why he hit the car. Reading these posts makes me think....
PS He is bruised but ok.

I'm guessing that's why I got kicked off the bike was due to the A-Arm bending. What I can't understand is that the A-Arm is the only thing that's bent/broke. Everything else is perfectly fine. It doesn't make any sense....
BTW, Raptor660RNH, if you don't get my e-mail, drop me an e-mail.

iceman that looks identicle to my left upper a-arm. i was riding a wheelie in second gear when i caught the grab bar and came down hard on the front left. needles to say when the a-arm gave i went over the bars too, the raptor tumbled over itself twice and the only thing broke was the grab bar and the upper a-arm.
