Suggestions for more power?
#1
I'm new to the forum and have enjoyed reading all of the posts from other satisfied DS owners. I have a stock 00 and would like to modify a bit. After reading and comparing, I've decided to go with the
Alba pipe with a K&N and outerware. My question is, while I have it apart, are there any other mods that I can do for under $500.? I,m not a " Motor head" but I'm also not afraid to get in and give it a shot. What's involved with porting and polishing the exhaust manifold and are there any special tools required? How about air box modifications? Any sugg. on the best bang for my buck would be app.
Thanks in advance

1]Aftermarket exhaust or at least a modified end cap for the stock muffler.
2]K&N air filter that mounts directly on the carb. The K&N that mounts in the air box will give less than a 1HP gain, while the filter mounted directly on the carb showed almost a 3HP gain. I performed the dyno tests on this myself. The tube that leads from the air box to the carb restricts the air flow too much. Unless you do deep water crossings[18" or more] on a regular basis, the filter will be suficiently protected without the box. The pre-filter that is used with this filter is water resistant, so it adds an element of protection anyway.[$60 for filter and pre-filter, free shipping]
3]Team Pami ignition box, recurves the ignition timing to help take advantage of the power the motor makes. It also takes care of the rev-limiter that cuts in much earlier than needed. [$290, free shipping]
These 3 mods, used in combination, show a 7.5-8 RWHP increase. I recomend this set up as a starting point for any future mods.
DON'T try porting your own head! If you don't know what your doing, you can easily do things wrong and cost yourself power. Not to mention, if you take too much material from the wrong area of the port, an experienced engine builder [like Team Pami] will not be able to save it[at least not for any reasonable cost].
