I was wondering where everyones dream place to live would be. Lets say you are retiring in less than 10 years and the house you are sitting on is paid off and is worth about $500,000.

For me it would have to be a spot that is close to plenty of good ATV riding and snow skiing. Away from a big city with smog, crime etc. Good weather(don't mind snow in the winter). Near the mountains, beautiful country, etc, etc, etc, you get the picture.

Montana is really nice, I lived and worked out their for a short time, and it was really nice. Wyoming is nice also. Idaho would be worth checking out too.

I would pick somewhere at the foot of a mountain range. You could live in the valley where you don't have to hassle with the big snows, then pop up into the mountains for all kinds of recreation. I would pick somewhere like the Eastern Sierra, but there are a million places in the mountain west.

I can tell you where it WOULDN'T be... Anywhere on the East coast. Too expensive, too crouded, and not enough ATV riding places. I always thought Oregon would be great; they have lots of dunes along the beach, trails all over and mountains too.

I lived in Mammoth Lakes for a few years. The Eastern Sierra is nice.

Anywhere in the middle of Colorado.

I personally like the area around Alma. It is between Fairplay (gold panning) and Breckenridge (Skiing) and you can go right out your door for some good fishing, hunting and ATVing. If you need city-stuff, Denver is only a little over an hour away.

Come on up to CANADA. On the outskirts of any city will get you into a good ATVing. I'm from the east coast and the trails are great, and when winter hits the rivers get you any where. Plus that $500,000 equals approximately $785,000.00 and houses don't cost as much.
