Where is the best place to live?

Based on the criteria that you stated. I'd select Pitken, Colorado. It's a sleeply Colorado mountain town in the middle of nowhere with a population of 100, elevation about 8000 feet. About 20 miles from Monarch ski area, probably 50 miles to Crested Butte.
ATV's are allowed on the streets, and you can travel in any direction to killer mountain passes. I don't know why I'm writing this, because I'm thinking about having my summer home there when I retire in 20 years and I don't want the secret to get out.

I don't mean to be morbid but has anyone been wondering where the best place would be to hide in the case of a large scale chemical or nuclear catastrope? Mountains? Beaches? Valley's? Canada? Mexico? Antartica!!

Beeing from a socialistic state of Illinois I would pick Texas or Arizona. But what about the snakes and deadly spiders? You can not let the dogs just run around, can you? You have to check your shoes, bed etc....?????
Colorado is nice if you like long winter and very short summer./Silverthorn/Breckenridge is elev.9000 ft.,cold/.
Lurch do you know anything about a new US141 highway towards Lena? How far north it should go??

The perfect setup for me would be a nice 35 to 40 ft. RV trailer with your choice of sport and 4x4 atv`s inside. Just go where ever the riding and weather is the best anytime you want. With plenty of money left for gas.
Thankgiving at Glamis, some ice racing in Minnesota then onto Hatfield/McCoy for mud runnin in the spring.
I`ll need an internet hook up in the trailer so I can have ridin buddies meet me at each place though.
Just a dream...
P.S. Not NY

North Carolina. Im about an hour from some of the best ski resorts in the country, 2 hours from the beach, and the nearest house is about a mile away, and im only about 15 minutes from the nearest city, and about an hour from winston-salem or greensboro.

Ok, rub it in Troy. I bet when you're sweating your butt in Phoenix off we'll see you back in Wyoming for a while...
I bet Flagstaff would be a good all round place to live or to go in the summer when Phoenix is too hot.
And yes, you do have to import women into Wyoming... Either that or marry them when they're about 16 before they get smart and move away.
