Newbies to AVT Warrior
#1
Yesterday we purchased a used 98 Warrior and brought it home to Rhode Island. My 16 old son and myself are complete newbies, but we had a blast today learning the shifting, braking, etc. One thing we found tricky to judge is when it is in neutral. The manual mentions a reverse indicator light and neutral indicator light. Our Warrior does not have these lights, I think because the owner changed the handle. Would these lights be a useful purchase or will we be able to feel the netural position in time? The cluch also does not seem to engage until the cluch lever is almost fully extended/opened. I followed the manual to adjust the clutch cable length adjusters, but the clutch still only engages when almost completely opened, causing many stalls. Is there a way to easily adjust when the clutch engages?
Thank you, for your time in answering these question.

Well the lights are nice goodies..but with time I think you will be able to feel where you are. The dealer would probably charge you a bundle for a new light kit.
I would guess that if the cable is adjusted properly on the clutch, you should Have someone look at the clutch plates and springs..unless your alright with tearing it down yourself. I just did a clutch on a warrior..It's not bad at all ..

mtbdad,
my Warrior's clutch is adjusted like yours also. Altho it can be adjusted to release later in the travel of the lever, I'd suggest you learn to use it as is, As a new rider you would be wise to develop the habit of clutching with two fingers to give you more control of the bars in fast or technical riding. With the clutch releasing this early, it is much easier to do with two fingers. About 1/2 travel releases the clutch. I run a twist throttle on the other side & the two finger method on the brake is a good safety practice also. It gives you a thumb (strongest digit), & two fingers on the grips.
