Can anyone help with this problem. I just noticed I have no 4 wheel drive in reverse. I have tried everything ,including pushing in the override button. My dealership told me it might be the "Switch High Reverse" on the right hand side of the tranny. I took it out and looked over it, and everything seemed fine. Any suggestions? Anyone have a similar problem. The 4 wheel drive is still working in forward, for now!

Thanks

Does the override button override the rev limiter in reverse? If not, the contacts in the button may be bad, or a wire broken.
If the motor will rev fully in reverse while holding the button, your dealer may be right.

The engine revs fine. I pulled off the switch and looked at it. I couldn't see anything physically wrong with it. Have you had a similar experience?

There is a small spring underneath the contacts on the yellow override button that pushes the contacts up and ensures that they meet when the button is pushed. If this spring is missing or crushed the 4WD will not work in reverse.

Sounds like you may have to start tracing wires (fun, fun).
A friend had one that wouldn't engage 4wd in reverse, but he couldn't go more than 5MPH in reverse, even when pushing the button. His override button was bad. If yours will go backwards faster than 8 or 10 MPH, I would have to say the button is working. Other than that, I don't know what to tell you, other than check over the wires, looking for any kinked, torn, or frayed ones.

This adds even more questions to the mystery. I just realized that I don't even have to push the override button to use reverse. So, now I know that I have no 4x4 in reverse and that I don't need the override button to override the reverse governor.

Could that mean anything else?

Does your reverse light come on when you shift into reverse? If not your switch in the shifting lever is bad. If it does check these things. You must have batt volatage on the Purple wire on shift switch. Then press override button and check for volatage on the gray and white. You can bypass reverse limiter by unplugging the black wire. You will probaly find that your problem is the switch or the limiter.

Lucked out. Must have had a loose wire on the Speed Limiter Hub Control Box.
