I seem to remember reading about an outfit that machined worn clutch baskets and then installed steel inserts. I can't remember where I read about it and I can't find it on the web. Can anybody help me out with this?

All you need to redo a clutch basket is a straight flat 1" wide file and some fine grit sandpaper. I have done this on bikes since the 70's. All you do is file the worn side of the basket with the file until almost all the groves are gone. Then wrap the file in sandpaper to finish the basket with a smooth profile. Just make sure to take your time and file each finger evenly, remembering to keep the fingers square like it were new. A basket can be filed at least 4 times before needing a new one.

That will work. However, my machine is highly modified and I feel that I would not be able to machine the exact same amount off of each finger. That would lead to failure of the clutch basket which would take out other more expensive components. I got a hinson basket, it seems cheaper in the long run.
