I was working on the Wolverine and had the front end blocked up. I noticed excessive wobble between the axle and the wheel. It was pretty even between each side. The only thing around to compare it to was a 98 Grizzly which felt 3-4 times tighter. I removed the wheel,hub, and brake rotor hoping to locate a bearing nut, but didn't see anything to adjust. Question is, does anyone else's wheel have that much free play, and if not, where is the adjustment?

My Timberwolf had excessive wobble in the front wheels, and I had to replace the wheel bearings. Cured the problem.

I don't own one but I thought I could give you some information about the wheel bearings.We have a group of of atv's mostly Yamaha. The ATV's in question were 98 Grizzly and a 99 Grizzly and a 98 Wolverine. All 3 machines were towed out, the 98 Wolverine only had 600 miles on it and was not covered by warranty. The Grizzlies had about 800 miles on them and only the 99 was covered by warranty. All three machines wheel bearings were wore out and had to be replaced. This was a case of faulty bearings which everyone thought Yamaha would cover but they would not. I was originally going to by a Yamaha but I when I drove to the dealership they told me a different price. But after seeing all the problems my friends are having (not just wheel bearings) and the fact Yamaha would not cover the costs I am glad I did not by one.

Hi, Mudrunner your bearings are shot, do a search under Harold to see my thoughts on the problem Yamaha has with wheel bearings.

Most likely it is your bearings cause yamaha bearings suck. ive had to replace mine to many times. BUT it just might be that u need to tighten up your tierod ends. Ide check them before replacin the bearings.

 

It's definetly the bearings. Tie rod ends are snug. Good troubleshooting guys!! Do you think I could get a better bearing through a auto part store ora bearing wholesaler such as Bearings Inc? I wonder if there is any difference in quality? No sense in going back to the stock junk if you don't have to!

Mudrunner i get my bearings at a local bearing shop.....half tha price than yamaha dealer and have been in there for almost a full year and r doin fine

 

make sure you get thr sealed ones. the number is followed by the letters RS

I replaced the bearings and it solved the problem. Yamaha had replacement bearings for 8.95 each but I opted to go with the local parts house sealed bearings for 21.95 each. It's a big difference in price, but I hope it's just as big in quality.Time will tell. The ones I used are Federal Mogul 106-cc. There are a sealed 6006 series bearing. you need 4 of them. Anyway, back to the woods!!
