My 250R WAS running really rich and was foulin 2-3 plugs a day ! I fixed the problem and havent fouled a plug since. BUT my question is shouldnt it be smoking less with the propper jetting? I thought so but now it constantly smokes like hell. I havent changed my premix brands or ratio's and the plug is a nice browm color. Is there something wrong? I know 2 strokes smoke alot but this thing has enough smoke for and army of 250R's lol. Is my top end trashed or what? Thanks, Zeb.

No your top end is more than likely OK but your lower end seals are trash.

My 250R smoked too. I was running Maxima Castor 927 (32:1). I just recently changed to Bel-Ray MC1 (50:1). I like it alot, and it doesn't smoke. Try that Killer, maybe thatll help.

You may be burning a lot of excess oil off your combustion chamber as well. I don't think running rich will hurt your engine, it is certainly better than running lean.

That R is the biggest POS. You have had problem after problem, and you ask way to many questions on here.

I agree with bermbanger, if your bike is jetted correctly, but you're seeing more smoke than you think normal, check your transmission oil. If it's low, you have leaky seals or crankcase gaskets. A leak down test will tell you for sure, it's not hard to build your own, or any REPUTABLE shop can do one for you. The test is: 6-7 lbs for 6 minutes with no loss. If it loses pressure, better find the leak, or you'll eventually fry your motor.

Most times I've dealt with a leaky crank seal it's been so woefully gooey and rich that you couldnt get it jetted or get it running right.

I would first, as mentioned, look at what oil you are using. Synthetic oils burn cleaner. Castor oil while it still has it's place is typically not a good choice of oils for an ATV. The castor needs more heat and RPM to burn cleaner, RPM on the order of 10K+...

Try a 100% synthetic, mixed at 40:1 ratio...then see how things go...

A compression test is always a good idea to maintain a picture of the current health of your engine. Less than 120 psi...I would replace the piston...rings will help, but if it's under 120 a new piston would be better.

Or of course the stellar advice...just sell it, it's junk...

ya id say ur bottom end seals.
To much oil is bad for an engine. IT will cause it to run hot since there is less gas in the cylinder to cool it.

most 2 strokes burn at first then clear up. if yours isnt clearing up i would agree with the above that your lower end seals need to be change.

MT400EX very helpful advice (yea right) I will do a compression test and check my tranny oil, if that doesnt work i will mix 40:1 I am currently running 100% synthetic SPECTRO at 32:1 (as recomended on the bottle).

BTW MT400ex here's the problems I have had that make it a (pos) 1) it was jetted wrong, wow big problem fix $2. 2)the case had a hole, for NEW cases it would cost $500 BUT I got it fixed free. 3)smokes alot. wow what a long list. Go ride and stop trying to **** me off.
