I need some help wit this project. I have picked up a small horn from autozone and would like to use my override button to sound the horn. I have snipped the gray/orange wire to disable the reverse override function. What do i do now to get the horn to work with this setup? The horn instructions have two options involving the ground connection (one and two terminal maybe?), but i can figure that part out if someone knows where to run the power from. Thanks.

 

I would use the over-ride button on the ground side of the horn, Your best bet would be to run the positive side of the horn directly to your battery with an inline fuse attached, That way when you press the button the ground completes and horn beeps.

Yes you do want to use the switch on the ground side. A friend bought a set of airhorns and has them mounted under the rack on his Sportsman. He has the compressor mounted under the center cover. I constantly forget he has it until he comes up behind a scares the hell out of me.

Our riding group is headed up to Fun Wheeler park on the 19-20th. I dont know if you ever get over there, but maybe we could meet up.

 

Just for heads up, you may want to make sure the RO button can handle the current the the horn may need to operate. My suggestion would be is to use a relay in line so the RO button dos not fry out. I would hate to see you fry out the RO button and have to replace the whole assembly.

Maybe someone would know if this should be done.

I thought about this one for a long time. I finally added a horn but here is what I did:

Hard wire it to the battery. Add a fuse. Mount the horn in the tool box under the seat. Mount the Horn button to the Headlight pod just under the speedometer.

I looks like it was built from the factory. You can't see the horn and it is water proof. I spray painted the horn button black so it blends in with my RSE sp500 and added a rubber spacer to the back of it when I bolted it into the pod for a water tight fit. It is hard wired with a fuse so it won't interfere with any other components and won't short out anything else on the bike.

There is a lot of great advice out on the forums about horns but I couldn't see messing with that override button. What I do to over come the override in this:

To dissable to override button, take a zip tie and go around the override button and the unit itself just tight enough to fully depress the button itself but not so tight that you can not slide it off the button and return the buttons function back to normal. This gives you the flexibility to deactivate reverse override when you want to but not totally dissable it.

I'm planning to add a horn to my TB when I get it street legal but I can't see messing with the RO button either. I thought I'd never need it but when I started using my utility trailer I found I had to use it to back up the trailer due to the added weight. If you don't have the RO when using a trailer, you'll wish you did.
