I just purchased aftermarket Warn 2500 winch for my Sportsman. The instructions for locating the remote connector and the solinoid are not clear. (See "Warn installation manual sucks!!".

1. Where do you mount the remote connector (which calls for drilling a 7/8" in hole)

2. Where do you mount the solenoid?

3. Does Polaris provide any mounting holes?

4. Any suggestions for routing the wiring. What panels do I need to remove.

5. What color is the hot wire from the keyswitch.

6. How does the factory mount these on the 500HOX which comes with a winch?

I've seached the forum and can't find answers.

Answers to any of these would be greatly appreciated.

I mounted the remote connecter on the headlight pod across from the 12 volt outlet. I mounted my solenoid on top of the radiator support. Polaris does not provide any mounting holes. The wires I run along the frame rails. The red/white wire is the one you are looking for. I haven't looked yet on the X to see how they set it up. Hope this helped.

1. The remote connector can be mounted just ahead of your accessory outlet or on the opposite side of the headlite pod from the accessory outlet.

2.Polaris recommends you mount it on the left rear frame rail behind the battery. However I mounted mine inside the under seat storage compartment in order to keep it out of reach of water and sticks, rocks and other debri, I drilled a hole on the left forward side next to the cover to route the wires.

3. No, polaris does not provide any mounting holes.

4. See 2 above, I had to remove the rear rack, bumper and rear fender ***'y. It was actually a very simple procedure and it made for a very clean installation. You will also need to remove left side panel front rack and nose panel for further routing.

5. Hot wire you need is red with white stripe.

6.It is done as described in 1 and 2 above. In front of the accessory port for the remote and on the rear frame rail for the solenoid.

Thanks ufg95 and Jerry for your suggestions. Extremely helpful. I have a pretty clear picture of what to do now.

An easier to get to "hot wire" is the hot lead going to the 12v
outlet. (and it's only hot when the switch is on) If anyone knows why you shoud not hot it off the l2v hot wire I sure would appreciate the info.

While you're wiring, Id suggest adding a good weatherproof toggle switch just like the one on the remote. I dont carry my remote on the bar like they say, and found a spring loaded toggle switch is very handy!

I believe Warn makes one.
