Please share your expertise. Should I use D1 or D2 for everday use? (small hills, trails, fields) What about for work within capacities noted on stickers? (log section drags, off road trailer pulling, carrying loads) Motor seems to rev more in D1 especially between 9 and 14 MPH. Are these higher revs harmful or necessary to stop plug fouling? I want this ATV to last. Thanks.

I use D/D1 all the time unless I am in slower trail conditions, then I put it in L/D1.I like the extra pull you get.If I am driving the machine really hard in the trails I go to ESP.

i had a 2001 rubicon and traded it for a 2002. i run mine in d2 99% of the time . when it is d1 it revs a little high for me. but if you are in a real muddy area or steep hills etc. d1 is the right (gear) to keep you going with the most engine power to spare. this is my personal thoughts.

I've only had my Ruby for a couple of days but it seems to be peppier in D1, D2 seems to be for flat terrain cruising. I've only put 4 kilometers so it's justa first impression.

I use D1 all the time, but when hunting and need quietness or if I am just putting along I use D2 to keep it lugging. If you floor it both will allow rev's to build

Thanks for the input fellas! Douglasss and Plunker, I really like your province. I try to make about 10 trips a year up there to fish (catch & release) Lake Norcan, near Calabogie. The whole family goes up once each year and stays at Canonto Lodge. Back to the Rubicon.......I will use D2 for putting around, D1 for performance, and L for work and tough spots. TNX ES 73

Default Rubicon D1 or D2?

Can you please tell me what a Trax Loc is? Does it lock the two front wheels together or does it remove the power from the two front wheels?

Trax-Loc disconnects the shaft running from the transmission to the front differential.

Only use d2 if you're on flat trails, going a steady speed. d1 is better for almost anything else. If you use d2 for pulling, mudding, hillclimbing, it is really hard on the centrifugal clutch.
