Default valve adustment

I had a top end put on my 2000 400EX and Im wondering how often teh vavles should be re-adjusted. I have a trailtech computer so I can keep track of both hours and miles ridden. The reason Im asking is that I did my first oil change after the top end was done and when I re-started the motor, I heard a slight ticking that I didnt hear before I changed the oil. I also, went to the Honda oil. I think the shop tht did the top end used a different oil than the honda oil so Im wondering if that may have something to do with the ticking also.

Under normal circumstance you don't need to adjust valve lash very often. If you want an exact figure, look in the maintainance schedule in the shop manual, or it may be in the owner's manual too. A "slight ticking noise" in a 400ex isn't considered out of norm, or it could indicate a need to inspect the lash. I have a hard time buying that the brand of oil makes much difference in terms of engine noise. Are you sure it wasn't there before? Make sure you follow the procedures EXACTLY in your owner's man or shop manual for checking the oil, or you will have the wrong amount.
