400ex Front Sprocket Installation.....? (Rental)
#1
I have a 2001 400ex with all the standard upgrades; e-series, jets, CDI, etc.. I was going to install a Renthal 14-tooth front sprocket and not sure if I am mounting this correctly. Never done it before and there are no directions. I unscrewed the chain guard and pulled it off along with what I believe is the chain guide. The stock sprocket has two screws going through it that holds a little plate to the sprocket. Not sure what that plate even does because it doesn't screw into anything else but the sprocket. The stock sprocket comes right off and the new 14-tooth sprocket goes right on but the plate holes don't line up with the new sprocket. Does that plate need to be there? Also the chain slack appears loose when I compared it to my buddy's Raptor. Am I doing this correctly?

yes the plate needs to be there it holds the sproket on !! spin the plate till the holes line up and or flip the plate over ...then you need to adjust you chain to spec ....not sure why you want a 14 tooth sproket? the gear ratios are a little short on the 400 to begin with
