Front Brake Adjustment & Grip Replacement?
#1
The hydraulic front brakes on my DS650 are a little to tight, they are dragging a bit when the brake is not on. How do you loosen up the brakes? I do not see any adjustments? Do you drain some fluid to loosen them up?
I attempted to replace the stock grips with Scott MX2 grips and had major problems. It turns out after hacking up one grip with a razor blade trying to get it off per instructions from a dealer, I realized that the stock grips are bolted onto the handlebar!!! I removed the bolt inside the barrel of the handlebar and the grip slid off. The stock grip is actually mounted on a plastic tube that easily slides onto the handlebar. At the end of the stock grip there is a hole where a bolt goes in. The handlebar has a cylindrical cutout in it at the end of the handlebar. A round disklike washer with a threaded hole drops into the cutout and accepts the bolt to secure the grip. When I slid the MX grip onto the handlebar it was loose and the cylindrical cutout in the handlebar could be felt through the grip. The new grip is about 22 mm in diameter and the handlebar is about 22 mm in diameter. The old grip that is mounted on the plastic barrel is about 25mm. I don't think I can get the old grip off the plastic barrel. Even if I could I don't think I can get the new grip on the plastic barrel. I need some advice ASAP!

I'm Not sure about the front bake adjustment process...I have yet to even see a DS in person.
But the handgrips should be able to be removed from the plastic sleeves with a razor blade...( at least all my grips have had to been cut off...ie: grip glue)
A mixture of dish soap and water should give you enough slide to get the new grips back on the sleeves.. I am guessing that the sleeve is about the same as a twist throttle. And the soapy water worked for me.

The grips are just like the watercraft so check out companies such as UNI. I use compressed air to get grips off. You usually can blast air between the grip and the handle bar. I havn't tried this on a DS though. Good luck.
