I got my 250r motor back 2 weekends ago and just got it all nice and broken in, etc. I had a complete bottom end rebuild w/hinson clutch and also got an LRD 265 top end kit. Tonight was the first time I really rode it, I rode it around the yard to seat the rings, etc last weekend. But anyway, I got on tonight and after about a 10 minute warm up session I let it eat in my yard. From second gear, she spun and spun, caught traction and stood up. Now I am like, holy SH*T, what did I get myself into with this thing. I got it on the road and let it rip, this thing is power from top to bottom, I have never been on a quad with this kinda power in the 250 class. My friend has an LRD 300 big bore and its almost exactly the same powerband as his 300, with maybe even more power to be honest.
I didnt get it on the track yet, but thats coming this weekend, but for anyone looking to get into a 250 class R, check out the LRD. This thing is AWESOME, you can spin the tires on blacktop, and you can pop a wheelie just hammering it in 4th gear!

Thanks for the post I was wondered if the LRD engine kits were any good, I am looking at getting one of the PowerValve kits and can't decide on who to get from. This will help my decision.

Thanks

My setup was WAY to much, but my dad's company sponsors me and paid for it! The bottom end I had done by the mechanic from our Honda dealer, but he did it at his house on his own time, so I didnt pay TOO much. The entire bottom end rebuild, w/hinson clutch was $650. He also said that the case was cracked around almost ever single bolt hole in the motor and he had all of those welded back right, so I feel like it was a pretty good deal. As far as the top end, it cost a little over a grand for the top end kit, which is cylinder, piston, cool head and dome, etc plus a 36mm Keihn carb, and also a $300 core charge since they wont accept 86 style cylinders as cores, I had to keep mine (what a loss, an extra top end ).

As far as if I were going to get a powervalve cylinder, I think I would go with Sparks honestly. Look what Jerimah Jones did with his this year at the GNC's. The reason that I went with LRD was because my dad wanted it NOW when we ordered, and they were the only place that had one in stock ready to ship, all they had to do was grind the head for my altitude and they shipped it out in like 2 days.

Have fun with your new motor. I love the 265cc set ups cause they run so good. It seems like honda 250's don't make good power until there a 265, especially after riding one.
