I'm going to have my frame powdercoated this winter for the 1st time. I was wondering what needs to be done to the frame. I know I will have to take the A-Arms, swingarm, steering stem, and all the components, but how do I wrap the ball joints up so they dont burn up?

Also, Where should I place the gussets on the frame? I have a MillterMatic 250, and can TIG weld them all, but I don't know where to put them. I plan on going over all the factory welds to increase strength.

Where can I get the powder to use? What color would look good on the 250R in my signature? Your opinion will be appreciated. Thanks.

P.S. I'll have pics of a 2002 Cannibal up sometime this week.. It's raining today, and my friend doesn't feel like getting it out today.

tim,
I had performance powdercoating in Lewisville do mine. They also sent the frame out to be welded at the stress points for me. They did the a-arms, swingarm, steering stem and hubs for less than $300.

Even though I'm not sure who Tim is, thanks for your info. I will have Ditto(company 2 miles from me) do it though. I know a guy that works there, and he owes a friend of mine a favor. He works night shift, so he said he'd bake the frames and stuff if we brought them up there one night.

I have the pictures of the Cannibal up. He did bring it out, and.. all I can say is WOW.. that thing HAULS. YoDaddy is one lucky guy.

Dillas, you ever ride at Badlands MX in Celeste? If so, you might recognize the 250R and Banshee in the pictures.

I'm sorry I thought you were someone else. No I haven't ridden at badlands yet. I probably will next year. Having elbow surgery on tuesday, so I will be out of commission for a couple of months. Do you know anyone racing the TORO race on sunday?

OK, I am sure you will think it is dumb, but I saw a Kawie Green 250R, and it looked sweet. All black and some chrome would look awesome too. Just my opinion.

Actually YoDaddy, I was thinking the very same thing as you. Jake's dad will be getting alot of his 1978 Harley FX Lowrider chromed, so I might just drop an A-Arm or two in there on him. Yes, Red/Chrome would look VERY good on my bike.

You will have to remove everything rubber from your frame. Tell them to cover the bearing surface for the lower steering stem bearing, or you be sanding for about 2 hours. If you can do it yourself, sandblast the frame. I know a couple of powder coaters and they love powder coating, but they hate having to sandblast everything first. I wouldn't recommend welding over the factory welds unless they are cracked, this will only make the already fatigued metal weaker yet. Good luck!
