Everything turned out great. First ride only lasted about a half hour, just 'cause it is friggin' cold here. I got the right springs for the front Works shocks X-mas eve. Spring rates are now right on. If I sit on it, my 210 lbs almost bottoms out the suspension's 6" travel front and rear.
.....I had been a little concerned that the wider and bigger rear tires would make it hard to turn. I was also concerned about the amount of caster I built into the A-arm mounts. I added 2 degrees to the stock Blaster geometry for a little extra stability at speed and in sand, at the expense of a little more steering effort. I also made the frame to accomodate 3 washers with the upper A-arm mounts, so I could dial in more caster later if we wanted to, like for a dune trip.
..... This baby handles like a dream. Totally neutral, and Ian has no trouble steering it. Right now it is stuck in first gear, with the throttle limiter EXTREMELY restricted. Top speed is about 6 mph.
I can jog alongside at top speed. We are learning about brakes. What stops Big Trains? Brakes. What stops Big Trucks? Brakes. What stops Big 4-wheelers?
......Raptorette First Ride
