Hello Everyone,

Just to keep everyone to speed, I had a little accident last week with my machine. I was going up a steep hill when almost at the top of the hill, my machine stalled. It happened so fast, that I had to bail off, or I would be the brunt of the accident. Anyway, I have about $1,100.00 in damage, including the rear axle being bent. I'm going to order the Durablue 'Heavy Dudy' axle from Rocky Mountain ATV and all the other parts from Ronnies.com. They seem pretty reasonable. I'm fortunate to have insurance on my machine. All the damage is covered under my insurance.

Can anyone tell me how to remove and install the axle? I'm also purchasing the new bearing and oil seals.

Any information would be greatly appreciated!!

I'm going to put mine in next weekend. I would like to know the same thing. Except I ordered the lonstar instead of the durablue. Reason for this is that I heard to many horror stories about the durablue breaking. If you go to Durablue's website you will see that they have a claus about the Raptor on axle breakage. Just my .02!!!

 

I would purchase the service book.

Ten minute job.
(1) Take off wheels
(2) Take off hubs
(3) Remove the two nuts on R.H. side of axle
(4) Slide out axle (comes out the left side, may require a soft hammer)
Installation is the opposite of removal.
I too have heard of problems with Durablue axles. That's why I went with a Lonestar. I even had to warranty it due to a hard crash and was given no grief and a quick turn around time. Very happy with there customer service.

 

oh boy everyone hears something. when you see it happen let me know. im sick of the hearing thing!
i seen a lonestar axle break in heavos 4 does that make it junk? i dont think so. and i would question anything i read in these forums because one kid starts a rumor and they all follow like lemmings.

also just a note. on there web site they dont recommend using the heavy duty for jumping.

 

If the axle is bent on the right side, it will have to be straightened (cut off?) before being removed from the carrier. WHen pecking the axle out, use a piece of wood in between the axle and the hammer.....this will keep from marring the threads. The Heavy Duty axle is supposed to be of better quality than the stocker.....if you have'nt bent any stock axles yet, this product should be more than adequate for YOUR intentions.
