Are these jet kits both the same? I think so but can someone confirm? Both made by dynojet?

YES, these kit are the same. dyno-jet makes them 4 kn if you call kn and ask
a ? they will tell you to call dyno jet..

all you are paying for is the instructions..i just go buy the jets from my local
yam shop

What about the new tapered needles...are they not necessary?

the new neddles and springs will help a little but not needed.

not worth the extra money. main jets cost 2-3 bucks pilots about 6 bucks

New needles help a lot, or they wouldn't be included. New needles help alot or CT wouldn't include them in their re-jet kit that comes with their pipe. Just changing the main jets only affects 25% of the fuel curve, leading to flat spots, especially in the mid-range. The Dynojet (K&N) kit comes with new needles and diaphram springs to cure this problem.

The needles are much more agressive rite off the bottom.
I could spend a hole day explaining jetting and carbs, but this always aparks debates.

The #1 power gain to come from a two stroke is carb tuning, what ever your doing ALWAYS include the jet kit..............

After going nuts trying to get mid range and top end dialed in perfect, I reluctantly bought a dyno-jet kit for my Raptor. This is the best money I have spent.....my top end power is about the same, but mid-range power is surprisingly better. THis was confirmed by dragging my bro's 'shee. Power delivery is very smooth.
Some guys say you will be wasting your money (for other atvs, they are probably right). I USED to feel the same way.
DYNO-JET kit = Faster Raptor (more so on a modded Raptor).
