Kodiak choke problem
#1
My choke seems to be stuck in the closed position. It has about 1/2 inch of slack when you move the lever but then won't budge any farther to the open position, as it used to. I had a hard time starting it yesterday since it was cold and hadn't been ran for awhile. It's stuck to the point that I was afraid to force it cause it seemed like it would break. It's not frozen cause it has been noticable for some time. Any info much appreciated.

Could be some moisture got in the cable housing and the cable is now rusted, you will probably have to pull it and try to work it out, then clean out the guide and lube it,that may help the problem.I had the same thing happen to my throttle cable,it didn't take long to rust once the water got in.

Well, I tried to take it off and lube it and managed to make it stick in the on position instead of the off...great. It looked like there was some mud and gunk in there and I w-D4 it and tightened it back to the carb. I then applied pressure as before on the lever and it broke fee but when started wouldn't go back to the off position and idled high like when choke is on. Took it off again and the spring came out more and would be hard to put back on due to the length of spring. I guess it's a trip to the dealer, any suggestions or any insight appreciated. Later...

Yamaha sells a new cable that is sealed better that fixes the problem you are describing. If your spring is shot, the only way to get the spring is to buy a few more parts that are packaged with it for around $25. You are better off going to the autopart store and buying a spring even if you have to cut the spring to make it the proper length.
